Discord username vs display name — different rules
Since Discord moved to the new username system (@username format), usernames are restricted to letters, numbers, underscores, and full stops only — no special symbols. However, your display name (what others see in chat) supports Unicode symbols freely. Use these symbols in your display name, not your username. You can set your display name in User Settings → Profiles.
Bio & About Me Symbols
Discord’s About Me section supports Unicode freely, including emoji. These are the symbols most commonly used to build aesthetic Discord bios — bullet-style markers, dividers between sections, and decorative accents.

Channel Name Symbols
Server owners use these symbols before channel names to create visual categories — giving a Discord server a polished, organised look. Discord renders these at the start of channel names, making them instantly scannable.

How to add symbols to Discord channel names
Click the gear icon next to a channel → Channel Name → paste the symbol before or after your channel name. Note: Discord’s channel name input strips some characters on mobile. Paste on desktop for best results, then it will display correctly on mobile too.
Decorative Dividers & Borders
Used in bios, welcome messages, pinned posts, and server rules to visually separate sections. Click any divider to copy the complete string.

A completely blank display name on Discord uses the Hangul Filler character (U+3164) — an invisible character that Discord accepts as a valid name character, displaying as blank.
Invisible character — paste as your entire display name for blank effect

⚠️
Blank names work on display name, not username
Discord’s new username system (@handle) requires at least one visible character. The invisible name trick works for your display name — the name shown in chats. Go to User Settings → Profiles → Display Name and paste the invisible character.
FAQ
Why do some symbols appear as boxes on Discord? A box (□) means Discord’s font doesn’t include that character’s glyph. This is more common on mobile than desktop. Stick to the symbols on this page — they’re confirmed to render on both platforms. If a symbol shows as a box on someone else’s device, try a simpler alternative.
Can I use these symbols in Discord channel names? Yes — server admins and owners can paste Unicode symbols into channel names. Paste on desktop for best results. Some characters get stripped by Discord’s input filter on mobile, but if they’re set via desktop they display everywhere.
Do these symbols work in Discord bios / About Me? Yes. Discord’s About Me supports full Unicode including emoji and combining characters. The bio templates above are designed specifically for the Discord About Me character limit (190 characters).
What’s the difference between Discord username and display name? Since Discord’s 2023 username system update, every account has two names: a username (like @username — letters, numbers, dots, underscores only) and a display name (what people see in chats — supports Unicode symbols freely). Use decorative symbols in your display name.
